Visit of the Grand Hospitaller
On August 28, H.E. Dr. Josef D. Blotz, Grand Hospitaller, and Dr. Franz Salm-Reifferscheidt, Ambassador of the Order for Roma Affairs, arrived in Pécs to learn about programs promoting social inclusion in the region. They were accompanied by the presidents of the Association and the Charity Service, as well as the Counsellor to the Embassy.
During the presentation, they visited the sites of the Presence program, which had started in the György settlement, but there was also talk of urban rehabilitation and the Catching Up Settlements program, which was launched in 2019. This was followed by a short concert by the Malta Symphony Orchestra, one of the activities of the programme. The delegation of the Order was welcomed by Sándor Kövesfalvi, regional director of the Hungarian Charity Service for South Transdanubia.
"Christianity is not theory, but praxis" said Sándor Kövesfalvi, quoting Father Imre Kozma, and emphasized that they still operate on the same principles that were laid down by volunteers in the South Transdanubia region at the time of its establishment. Unlike other volunteer groups, there has been a medical section here from the beginning, which provides social care for homeless people. "We also deal with social challenges that other charitable organizations do not," he added.
