2025 St. Stephen's Day
Budapest, August 20, 2025. On the feast day of our founding king, St. Stephen, the Order of Malta was well represented at the traditional ceremony of the blessing of bread, Holy Mass, and procession of the Holy Right Handheld in front of the Basilica of Saint Stephen in downtown Budapest. The delegation of the Order was led by Ádám Makkai and Ákos Ugron, and the large delegation from the Charity Service was headed by Vice-Presidents Miklós Vecsei and Alpár Lázár.
The Holy Mass was celebrated by Cardinal Péter Erdő. The sermon, delivered by Zsolt Márton, Bishop of Vác, highlighted the themes of nation building, faith and community cohesion as the legacy of St. Stephen, and emphasized that reconciliation, bridge building and respect for others are still valid and applicable teachings today. This year, the prayers of the faithful were read by members of the Order of Malta.
