International Eucharistic Congress in Budapest: opening ceremony
Budapest, 5 September 2021. The 52nd International Eucharistic Congress is being held in Budapest, following a year's delay caused by the COVID pandemic. The opening ceremony and Holy Mass were celebrated on Heroes' Square, attenden by nearly 20 000 persons. The Hungarian Association of the Order was present, as well as their families.
The ceremony began with a solemn procession of local Catholic associations from different parts of Hungary and Magyar communities from neighbouring States in their traditional costumes, followed by a spirited performance of their folk dances.
The Holy Mass was celebrated by HE Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco, President of the European Bishops' Conference, with HE Michael Blume, Papal Nuncio, and fourteen archbishops, including the Patriarchs of the Maronite Church and the Syrian Melkite church.
