Farewell to Father József Török
Our Chaplain, Professor József Török, Church historian and educator, was laid to rest on February 4 in the Catholic cemetery of his native town Makó. The funeral Mass, held in Saint Stephen's church, was concelebrated by Mons. Antal Spányi, Bishop of Székesfehérvár, Mons. Ferenc Cserháti, auxiliary bishop of Budapest-Eszergom, chief Chaplain of the Order in Hungary, and Mons. Endre Gyulay, retired auxiliary bishop of Szeged-Csanád, assisted by a number of priests. The choir of the parish of Our Lady in Krisztinaváros sang at the ceremony. Father Török had had a key role in setting up the choir. The Hungarian Association of the Order of Malta was represented by seventeen members, including two chaplains.
A detailed report of the event and photo gallery can be seen (in Hungarian only) in Magyar Kurír.
Previously, on January 30, a memerial Mass was concelebrated in the Order's House in Fortuna Utca by Dr. Ádám Füzes, Director of Saint Joseph's Church in Óbuda and dean of the Károly Kanter Adult Education Institute, and Father Imre Kozma, Ch.G.C.C.H., President of MMSZ. A large number of members, family members and friends attended.
After the funeral, memorial Masses were also held in two parishes where Dr. Török had served for many years: in the Krisztinaváros Parish on February 5 and in Máriaremete on February 8. Both Masses were attended by delegations of the Order in Church robes.
