Happenings during January 2020
Our Thursday evening programs began in 2020 with two special events.

The first Holy Mass of the year was celebrated on January 2 by Fr. Lurdu Raju Chavvakula SVD, whom we already knew from the 2019 Lourdes pilgrimage.

After Mass, we were treated to a highly interesting lecture by Dr. Győző Vörös on his archaeological work in Machaerus Castle. This long-lost site, an exceptionally important and magnificent fortified royal castle of the Herodian era, was first excavated only in 1967. Dr. Vörös - who was already well-known due to his earlier excavations in Egypt - began work on the site in 2009, with internationally acclaimed results.

Machaeros Castle is of particular importance to the Order of Malta because according to Josephus Flavius - and very probably in reality - this is where John the Baptist was imprisoned, where Salomé danced and where John was beheaded.

It is worth noting that this was the first event held in the new Blessed Vilmos Apor conference room, into which the new chapel transforms when the sanctuary is screened off. The conference room is equipped  with comfortable seating and up-to-date audiovisual equipment.

The January 9 Holy Mass was celebrated by Dr. Ádám Füzes, Dean of Saint Joseph Church in Óbuda and director of the Kanter Károly Adult Education Institute. After Mass Father Ádám, accompanied by the members of the Order in procession, performed the traditional annual Epiphany blessing of the House.
