Restoration and blessing of three Hungarian collective graves in Rome cemetery

February 10, 2018. Three Hungarian collective graves found in the Verano cemetery in Rome have been restroed and blessed again. Mons. László Németh, Chief pastor of Hungarians in Italy, with financing from the Hungarian Embassy, took the initiative to restore and re-lanscape the gravesites, and clarify the relevant legal status and responsibility.

During the 1960s, the Hungarian Catholic congregation in Rome, together with the then-émigré Association of Hungarian Knights of Malta, had bought two adjacent gravesites, one for Hungarian émigrés in Rome, the other for Hungarian members of the Order of Malta. The latter was cared for, until this day, by Dr. Jozsef Rabi, Member of the Order. Dr. Rabi received a warm note of thanks during the ceremony.

Representatives of the Hungarian diplomatic corps, the Hungarian community in Rome and the president and chancellor of MMLSZ participated in  the intimate ceremony, remembering the departed who are buried in these two sites.

You can read the address (in Hungarian) of the president of MMLSZ, Kristóf Szabadhegyi, by clicking here. In his speech, he mentioned by name the members of the Order who are buried in this site.

Bonum TV reported on the ceremony. The video (in Hungarian) can be accessed by clicking here.
