Inauguration of the chapel and consecration of the altar

Budapest, October 13, 2019. An intimate ceremony for the consecration of the new chapel in the renovated House of the Order took place on the feast day of the Founder of the Order, Blessed Gerard.

The chapel and altar were consecrated by Cardinal Primate Peter Erdő, Archbishop of Esztergom-Budapest, Bailiff Grand Cross of Honour and Devotion, during a Holy Mass celebrated in the chapel filled with enrobed Knights and Dames of the Association. Bishop Ferenc Cserháti, Conventual Chaplain ad honorem, and Fr. Artúr Faragó, Magistral Chaplain, concelebrated.

In his homily, the Cardinal stressed that although the vocation of the Order of Malta is closely related to assisting the sick and the poor, it goes well beyond that, since its deeper meaning is to be witnesses to God's love and to our vocation to sainthood. He asked for God's blessing, and for the intercession of Our Lady of Philermo and the Founder Blessed Gerard, on the life and efforts of the Hungarian Association of the Knights of Malta.
